A 365-day trip across the Americas with our Land Rover Defender. Starting September 2025.
We are 2 adventurers, currently preparing an exciting travel in which we will leave Europe to embark on a journey across the Americas, aiming to follow the legendary Pan-American Highway in our Land Rover Defender.
This epic adventure will take us through diverse landscapes, cultures, and climates, as we travel from the southern tip of Argentina all the way up to the northern reaches of Alaska. Starting in Uruguay, crossing Argentina, the passing through the high mountain range of the Andes, the tropical forests of Central America, the deserts of Mexico, the United States and before ending in Halifax, Canada.
The thrill of packing for a year-long world trip is a mix of boundless excitement, endless possibilities, and the joyful anticipation of stepping into the unknown, with each item tucked away symbolizing a new adventure waiting to unfold.
The Itinerary
The Pan-American Highway, a network of roads stretching over 30,000 kilometers, will serve as the backbone of our journey.
An epic road
It is considered the longest road in the world, although it is interrupted by the Darién Gap, a dense jungle between Panama and Colombia that is about 160 km (100 miles) long and lacks a road connection.
Unique landscape
Starting in Alaska, the road winds through snow-capped peaks and dense forests, then descends into the arid deserts of the U.S. and Mexico. In Central America, it cuts through lush rainforests and volcanic highlands, before reaching the rugged Andes in South America. The route showcases windswept plateaus, massive glaciers, and surreal salt flats before ending at the edge of the world in Ushuaia, Argentina, surrounded by the wild beauty of Patagonia.
We will follow the road south to north.
It’s also about people and culture
On this road, we encounter Mayan and Incan ruins, colonial cities with Spanish influences, and remote villages where ancient traditions thrive. The road weaves through Andean markets, Amazonian tribes, and cosmopolitan capitals, blending modern urban life with deep-rooted folklore, music, and art. Each stop offers a new cultural experience, making the journey as rich as the landscapes themselves.
About Us
Since we were young, the spirit of adventure has been a guiding force in our lives, leading us across continents and immersing us in the beauty of diverse lands and cultures.
We live together for more than 20 years and we have always had an explorer mindset. We already spent years aboard, living 2 years under the sun of Australia, spending months in the snow (and darkness) of Finland. Each journey has shaped us, fueling our curiosity and deepening our love for exploration. It was either long stays in the same place, or multiple week trips.
Now, we feel a calling to travel differently—at a slower, more intentional pace. We long to reconnect with the rhythm of nature and people, to truly experience the heartbeat of local communities, and to immerse ourselves in the rich tapestry of cultures.
This journey is not just about joining Canada from Patagonia but about embracing simplicity, authenticity, and the profound connections that come with mindful travel.
Our vehicle
The Land Rover Defender carries a legendary reputation among overlanders—symbolizing freedom, resilience, and the spirit of exploration.
Built to tackle the most demanding terrains, it features a robust chassis, high ground clearance, and a reliable four-wheel-drive system, making it ideal for navigating everything from Andean mountain passes to dense Amazonian jungles. Its simplicity in mechanics also makes it easier to repair in remote areas, a crucial factor for us.
